This video shows that – as well as being a really simple knot – with a little practice it is really quick to tie. Although people often use the Palomar knot (and it is really strong), it isn’t possible to get the hook to sit out at 90 degrees to your line (even when you tuck the tag down through the hook-eye).
The dropshotting knot demonstrated is custom-designed to hold the hook out at a perfect right angle – and to fish with the hook-point upwards. As well as great presentation of your lure, the hook position helps create the best conditions for getting a reliable hook-hold.
