Grouper Rigs and Techniques 2013

Fishing Techniques
Here is a tutorial where I walk you through my three most common and successful grouper rigs and techniques. I start with free lining, I add 10-15 feet of 80lb top shot, AKA leader to my 80lb braid. Mono is abrasion resistance and must be used when grouper fishing. I then tie a 6 to 10/0 circle hook to my leader using the improved clinch knot. Typically, I like to free line for grouper in water that is 12 foot or less, the least amount of hardware that you can get away with using, the more successful you will be. Try to match the baits most natural distressed look; this is key, especially for finicky grouper. As the current gets stronger and I fish deeper, I switch over to weighted rigs; I show you how to rig both the “sinker dead bait rig” and the “sliding sinker rig”. The sinker dead bait consist of a fixed egg sinker that is restricted from sliding on your main line. This is typically popular when you are fishing with dead baits. The third type of grouper rig is the sliding sinker rig, this is when the egg sinker is placed on your main line and can slide freely, when a fish strikes, there is no resistance. All of these methods work and have allows me to catch hundreds of grouper. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. Also, please remember to like and subscribe. Thank you!
