The “red line” also reveals level of interest a fish has in your lure. If the line is thick with no breaks and across the entire top screen that means the fish will very likely grab the line if you keep the pace at which you’re reeling and luring it. If the red line decreases, it means fish is losing interest. If it thins out very quickly, you should recast.
This fishing minigame is basically a “fight”, with your equipment as weapon. Move your line (control stick) in the direction of fish and stop reeling and reel particularly when there’s no indicator.
Besides visuals, you must feel as well. If the fish is fighting you, do not reel to keep tension down. If the fish is fighting you, your controller vibrates (even if there are not “tension” shown on screen).
When there is no shaking or indicator, you can reel. Remember to time your “reel in” so the fish’s sudden shift to attack doesn’t drain your line durability. Bigger fish will test you, so keep as much durability as possible.
Buy 2 of every available lure and 25 of the highest durability line.
Rare fishes will disappear and reappear during different times of the day.
If the lighting is right, you can actually see which direction the fish is turning to.
If your fishing equipment is not good enough, rare fishes won’t have the Quick Time Event hints, so it is impossible to catch them. Your line will snap eventually.
If you don’t see notice of what fish is in the water, you can look round for lures near the fishing area. They give a hint on wht is in the water.
Holding “Reel In” on Cactuar reels will spin and flick up water. You can use this trick (along with regular taps) to get fishes attention.
