Tips For Beginners
Welcome back to Fish Like Us! Today we’re going pier fishing at the Skyway, and we’re going to give you our top 3 pier fishing tips for protecting your rod and your fingers!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Skyway Bridge, we suggest you change that. The Skyway Bridge is not only a beautiful landmark in the very center of Tampa Bay, but it’s the best view in town. It’s also the deepest channel of water coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. If big water means BIG fish, then this is where you’ll want to be to catch those! In order to do that, you’re going to want to watch these top 3 pier fishing tips to give you the advantage.

When we’re not on the beaches or our Hobie Pro Angler, we’re pier fishing, and there is a TON of pier fishing to be had around these parts. Practically every state or county park has one, and areas with no pier most certainly have accessible docks. This particular pier, the Skyway Fishing Pier State Park, is the old highway that used to connect St. Petersburg to Terra Ceia. No longer connecting traffic to landmasses, it has gained its full purpose and now connects anglers to their fish.

You can fish from the north or south skyway bridges, and the 24-hour pass they give you upon payment is redeemable at both. Having a pass makes for a great park experience because you can move to where the fish are, and can even leave and come back if needed.

We enjoy fishing the skyway bridge because of the people and fish that bless us there. Since we care about having quality gear in good shape, we’re giving you our top 3 pier fishing tips so you can fish the bridge effectively while protecting your rods from harm. Watch to the end for bonus tips and features. Please see our ‘How-to’ playlist to learn how to build rod holders and do numerous other fishing related actions independently.
