It’s an invasion, there’s no other word for it. Thousands of rogue trawlers descending from Indonesia, plundering our rich fishing grounds. And they’re so brazen about it, making a mockery of the term “border security”. True, the Navy’s doing what it can, and the Federal Government’s pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the fight. But, from what Tara Brown saw in a week on patrol with the Navy, it looks pretty grim. The sheer number of these pirates, the vast distances, the huge profits all conspire against us. And it’s not just about fishing up north, the security and safety implications for the whole nation really are quite frightening.
