Shark attacks are rare, but the chances of one occurring are always greater than zero. Usually there are less than 10 deaths per year attributed to shark attacks globally, for some perspective roughly 2,000 people a year die from lightning strikes. That’s a one in almost four million chance. Though incredibly unlikely this was unfortunately what happened to Randy Fry back in 2004, but unlike most shark attacks, this one is notable for the purely bizarre way in which it happened.
Randy Fry was an avid fisherman advocate having been employed at the time by the Recreational Fishing Alliance, a non-profit,political lobby for saltwater sport fishermen. As well as being an experienced diver at one point being a scuba diver instructor, and leading chartered dives in the Philippines.
