How to tie Perfect Snell knot and Snell knots (3 variants)

Hook Knots
The Snell knot is ideal for tying line to align with shank of the hook, that stay outwards for better catch. Popular because it is easy to tie, strong, specifically for long straight shank and circle hooks.

The Fat Elf shows you how to tie the Perfect Snell knot and Snell knot (3 variants) on mono lines.

Steps for Perfect Snell knot:
1. Pass mono line through eye of the hook towards shank.
2. Loop tag line to 8 inches and hold lines at shank of the hook.
3. Wrap loop line 8 turns around lines and shank towards eye of the hook.
4. Hold the wraps and ensure no overlap.
5. Pull tag end slowly to close the knot.
6. Slide the knot towards eye of the hook and rotate knot for main line to exit at eye of the hook.
7. Moisten and tighten the knot steadily.
8. Trim the tag end.

Steps for Snell knot (variant 1):
1. Pass mono line through eye of the hook towards shank.
2. Loop tag line and pass tag end through the bottom eye of the hook.
3. Close loop lines to 2 inches and hold lines at eye of the hook
4. Wrap tag line 8 turns around loop lines and shank towards the bend of the hook.
5. Hold the wraps and ensure no overlap.
6. Pass tag end through the loop and hold it at the bend of the hook.
7. Pull the main line slowly to close the knot.
8. Moisten and tighten the knot steadily.
9. Trim the tag end.

Steps for Snell knot (variant 2):
1. Pass mono line through eye of the hook towards shank.
2. Loop tag line to 6 inches and hold lines at shank of the hook.
3. Wrap tag line 8 turns around loop lines and shank towards the eye of the hook.
4. Hold the wraps.
5. Pass tag end through the loop and hold it at the bend of the hook.
6. Pull the main line slowly to close the knot.
7. Moisten and tighten the knot steadily.
8. Trim the tag end.

Steps for Snell knot (variant 3):
1. Pass mono line through eye of the hook towards shank.
2. Hold tag end 2 inches at shank of the hook.
3. Wrap main line 8 turns around tag line and shank towards the bend of the hook.
4. Hold the wraps.
5. Pass main end through the bottom eye of the hook.
6. Pull slowly to close the knot.
7. Moisten and tighten the knot steadily.
8. Trim the tag end.
