There is something a bit special about this type of rig beyond what a standard drop shot rig gives you. I think it because of that stiff link to the weight even though it is not fixed it gives some real feedback to the rod and also holds your bait or fishing lure just out of the bottom right where a fish has a good chance of smashing it. The professionally made rigs normally use a pole swivel which includes the weight wire, but they are a bit hard to come buy so i went looping some solid stainless steel wire and as yet haven’t really had any tangling problems to speak of,
