Shark vs. lionfish | SLICE

At the end of the twentieth century, the lionfish reached the Atlantic Coast of the United States where it rapidly became the terror of the sea. In ten years, it conquered a massive territory at a horrifying speed. Scientists call him the worst invader on the planet.

It devours everything in its path, even the youngest of fish. It feeds on the larvae of shrimp and lobster. Marine life suffers wherever the lionfish flourishes, and the tropical reefs are quickly becoming deserted.

In its native habitat, Lionfish is just a predator among many. But here in the Atlantic, it knows no predators.

That is why some scientists, such as Giacomo Palavicini, a researcher and founder of the “Shark legacy project”, decided to launch a test to teach sharks to view the lionfish as potential prey.
